Dimensional Type Field Trip: Reykjavik

Dimensional type takes a field trip to Iceland. I arranged ice lettering all over Reykjavik and the southern Golden Circle, panning up slowly to reveal the surrounding environment. The project was a fascinating study in geographical variables: soil, light, topography. Originally intended as an announcement for the trip to Iceland's capital, the salt lettering proved sturdy enough to withstand packing and bumbling around in a carry-on.

Aside from building and growing the lettering, I planned, shot, cut, audio mixed, and arranged the video from start to finish in the course of six days. Shot on Front Row and iPhone 8s.

Locations visited: Ásmundarsafn Sculpture Garden, Seltún, Kerid, Hallgrimskirkja, Hólavallagarður, Gullfoss, Epal Harpa, Reynisfjara, Jökulsárlón.

Combatting PTS after a harrowing vacation fail this summer, I knew I had to travel again before the desire left me altogether. I decided on a solo trip to Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, and fashioned crystallized lettering into a typographic announcement. Once I realized how sturdy the piece was, I took the project a step further: with me in my carry on. Upon arriving, I setup the lettering around the city and documented the environment in which it set, but I itched to see the country. I didn't realize how sturdy I was. My vacation away became a dimensional type field trip as I travelled part of the Golden Circle, driving ten hour, one day round trip to see Vik's black sand beaches, the immense rapids at Gullfoss, and the colorful glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón. I didn't know how sturdy I was, either. More at Marmalade Bleue.
