A Collab with MetaPride Land
Before Katie Hultquist from OutRight International asked me to participate in the MetaPride Land’s fundraiser, I had already begun obsessively puzzling over how-to instructions. Leaves, lotuses, small boxes emerged after I cracked the secret code of arrows and dotted lines.
Origami is both precise and a lesson in rule breaking. A million folds, a million and one unfoldings. A sharp corner becomes a loop with unconventional movements.
The paper colors reflect the transgender flag, especially noted in the ribbons and lettering. It was important to maintain the softness of paper texture and the familiar shapes of origami, which invites viewers into a larger than life digital environment.
When we see elements of our world in technology, it softens the future. We greet it with curiosity rather than skepticism. This kind of work seeks to include everyone on this gorgeous, unfolding journey towards a brighter future.
